  • Dr.Shekhar Singh - Convenor of the National Campaign for People’s Right to Information (NCPRI). His major areas of work and interest include environmental management and good governance.

The Indian parliament passed the Right to Information Bill (PDF) in the second week of May this year. The passage of the Bill was a culmination of years of activism inspired by the desire for transparent governance. This activism stemmed from the belief that transparency in governance is the cornerstone of democracy. We at Young India share the same belief.

Dr.Shekhar Singh has led from the front on this issue. A scholar and activist of great experience Dr.Singh worked closely with the National Advisory Council to shape the Bill. The audience will have a rare chance to hear directly from him about how this movement evolved and what needs to be done now to ensure that this Bill serves its purpose.

We hope you join us to not only understand the impact of this critical legislation but also explore how you can join the campaign to unleash the full potential of this Bill to achieve the greater ideal of our democracy - empowerment of the citizenry.
